Wisteria & Heather Ltd. Acquires The Bellachroy, Mull’s Oldest Inn, with Plans for a Sustainable Future
Isle of Mull, Scotland, 7th of March, 2025
Wisteria & Heather Ltd is delighted to announce its acquisition of The Bellachroy, the Isle of Mull’s oldest and most historic inn. Under the leadership of Thomas Broom-Hughes and Matthew Broom-Hughes, the company plans to sensitively refurbish the beloved property, transforming it into a destination that celebrates the island’s heritage while embracing sustainability and locally sourced food.
For centuries, The Bellachroy has been a cornerstone of the community, offering warm hospitality to travellers and locals alike. Wisteria & Heather Ltd will honour that legacy with a thoughtful restoration, creating an eco-friendly retreat that blends traditional charm with modern sustainability. The plans include a fully refurbished hotel, restaurant, and pub, all designed to showcase the best of Mull’s natural beauty and local produce.
“Our love for Mull runs deep, and we are thrilled to be stewards of such an iconic place,” said Thomas Broom-Hughes. “Our vision is to create a welcoming space where guests can experience the true essence of the island through its food, landscape, and history, while prioritising sustainability at every turn.”
The Bellachroy will embrace a farm-to-plate philosophy, working closely with local farmers, fishermen, and artisans to offer a menu rooted in the freshest, most sustainable ingredients. The pub and restaurant will celebrate the island’s rich culinary traditions, with an emphasis on seasonality and zero-waste practices. Additionally, the property’s grounds will be transformed into stunning gardens, featuring native flora, kitchen gardens, and biodiverse green spaces to support local wildlife.
“We want The Bellachroy to be more than just a place to stay, we want to welcome everyone to our home, where people connect with the land, the community, and the history of Mull,” added Matthew Broom-Hughes. “Sustainability and provenance is at the heart of everything we do, and we can’t wait to bring this vision to life.”
The sympathetic refurbishment is set to begin in the coming months, and The Bellachroy will remain open as usual from the start of the 2025 season in April. More details will be announced in due course.
