A great short walk (approx 1 hour with a few photo stops) and spectacular views, 10 minutes drive from the hotel. It is a short climb up to the top but once there it is well worth the effort. Easy to follow trodden paths.
The start of the walk is on the Dervaig to Tobermory road (B8073), park at the abandoned cottage halfway along the Mishnish lochs. Go through the gate at the cottage and follow the path up. There is a gate to go through further up. Through the gate bare right and follow the stone wall up. You will then see the loch at the top and the path roughly runs around the circuit of the bowl. Cross over the wall and follow the path around the top to the cairn (mound of rough stones).
Which islands did you see?
The ‘crater’ is an ice-carved bowl with a dark and secret loch at its heart.
It is boggy in places so take sturdy footwear, it can also be breezy at the top. Rosie loved jumping in the muddy bog.
